Media

As a media manager for not-for-profit organisations, Lesley Branagan has executed leading-edge media and advocacy campaigns that achieved wide coverage and were shortlisted for national awards.

Her media management experience spans Australia and India, predominantly in the fields of health, development and social welfare.

As the former Media Manager for Cancer Council Australia, she notably managed skin cancer campaigns such as Save Your Skin (short listed for a Caples Award), and Don’t Be a Victim – which featured a campaign launch and large installation on Bondi Beach filmed aerially and depicted nationally on all five major Australian TV stations and in publications around the world (Wall Street Journal, Telegraph UK, Le Figaro).

She has also coordinated advocacy campaigns with a high success rate of achieving their goal of influencing government policies. These include Cancer Council’s Get Behind Bowel Screening (Commended, PRIA awards) and the campaign to ban human gene patenting. In Central Australia, she coordinated a campaign for CADPHC designed to address alcohol abuse by changing local licensing laws.

In India, she has executed media work for not-for-profit organisations, such as Jagori’s Safe Delhi campaign (part of UN Women’s Gender Inclusive Cities Project), which aimed to reduce the harassment of women in Delhi’s public spaces. She has also undertaken documentation work for AVAG’s Woman Power project, which included the production of a 20 minute documentary film that is used as a fundraising and teaching tool internationally.

She possesses a post-graduate degree in journalism (UTS) and a Master degree in applied anthropology (Macquarie). For the latter, she received a Prime Minister’s Australia Endeavour Award to undertake studies and professional development in India.

Her skills and experience include: the development and implementation of media strategies; advanced writing and reporting capacities; high-level media liaison; provision of media training for spokespersons; organisation of major events and media conferences; execution of social media strategies; website management; and campaign evaluation.
